What is PEP? |
Established in 2001, Pin@y Educational Partnerships (PEP) is a teaching pipeline and a space for the development of critical Filipina/o American curriculum and research. PEP is dually located in the academy and in the community. As a program of San Francisco State University’s Asian American Studies Department in the College of Ethnic Studies , PEP partners with San Francisco public schools and the Filipino Community Center located in the Excelsior neighborhood of San Francisco and is fiscally sponsored by the Filipina American Development Foundation located in the South of Market at the Bayanihan Center . PEP’s teaching pipeline connects San Francisco State University upper division undergraduates and graduate students who have an interest in pursuing careers in the field of education, with community college, high school, middle school, and elementary school students who are primarily from low-income backgrounds. One of the main objectives for the PEP Program is to reach out to the students who are underperforming their potential to provide them the support and opportunities necessary to achieve their goals.

Vision |
To provide a space where students teach and learn together through an ethnic studies lens, with a focus on Filipin@ American Studies. We will build a foundation constructed with pillars of humanization, her/history, home, healing, and hope to uphold our classroom as a transformative and collaborative space. We will share our stories with each other in order to understand and impact ourselves, our communities and the world we live in.
|
Mission |
Our mission for this course is to love, heal, and grow with our students by developing safe spaces and mentoring relationships to create community. Our lesson plans will challenge students to work collaboratively, to critique hegemony, and encourage full participation as they become agents of change.
